Can you imagine yourself working with the general public?
Are you interested in a career in the Police, Fire Service, Armed Services or
local authorities? Do you enjoy participating in practical tasks? If the answer
is ‘yes’ to any of these questions then you should consider this
course.
Students will study a range of subject areas during the one
year course including Fitness, Public Service skills and Expedition skills.
These units will help to develop the skills and interests required for a career
in the Public Services. Within the practical element of the course students will
participate in different kinds of fitness training, take part in a number of
different team building activities and communication tasks and participate in
land based adventure activities.

Course Overview
This course is for those with a genuine interest in working
in the Uniformed Public Services, such as the Police, the Fire Service and the
Armed Services. Students will learn essential skills for working in the
industry, related to teamwork and communication such as:
- Public Service Skills
- Career Planning
- Land Navigation by Map and
Compass

Course Highlights
Course Specific Trips, Visits & Experiences
The College runs a number of educational experiences each
year to enable students to contextualise their learning. These experiences
include trips, visiting speakers and residentials.
Students will get physically involved in a wide range of
activities that involve team work such as army assault courses and a field gun
challenge.
They will also have the chance to engage with Public
Services personnel through a variety of external trips and visits including a
residential.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
This qualification shows that students can apply concepts
and interpret practical situations. It will provide them with a strong grounding
for furthering their studies at Coulsdon Sixth Form College on a Level 3 BTEC
course.

Students will enjoy this course if they like to:

Students should have a keen interest in working within the
Public Services and enjoy communicating through speaking and working
independently or as part of a team.

Entry Requirements
Two 2 and three 3 grades at GCSE including English and
Mathematics minimum Grade 2 or equivalent qualifications (a Pass or higher at
BTEC Level 2 is accepted as part of the GCSE Grades.
