Course Overview

This course is designed for those who have experience of working in construction and looking to enhance their career prospects in the industry.
This programme will develop your understanding of current health, safety, and welfare legislation and you will develop the skills to undertake risk assessments.

You will also learn the techniques of how site investigation and evaluation can influence the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings and their substructures. We will provide opportunities for you to develop your skills in using analytical methods and statistics to solve problems as well as an understanding of the properties and structural behaviour of construction materials. You will also discover how market forces and government policies influence the construction industry.

This course is a practitioner (skills-based) programme based on core areas that analyse building energy requirements in terms of the external environment and internal space and the effect of this built environment on energy resources. It considers the principles and analysis of associated building engineering systems, leading to the understanding of control, simulation, and modelling techniques.

We offer a payment plan for students who would like to spread the costs of their fees over the duration of the academic year. 



Career Opportunities & Further Study
Upon successful completion, students can progress to the Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Construction Management. The HNC is a industry recognised qualification allowing you excellent career opportunities within the construction and build environment sector.

Assessment
Assessment is based on a combination of coursework, assignments and assessment will vary from unit to unit. You will also be required to undertake some group and project work. You will learn hands-on skills such as drawing, setting out and measuring and learn to use software such as AutoCAD and MS Project. 

Entry Requirements

One or more of the following:

  • Level 3 qualification in Construction and the Built Environment (or a related subject).
  • GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject; this profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades A* to C and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in subjects such as maths and English
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications
  • An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution
  • Related work experience
  • An international equivalent of the above
