Course Overview

This qualification aims to provide learners with in-depth knowledge of the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work and the approaches that underpin the use of these skills.

To be awarded the Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills, learners are required to successfully complete 5 mandatory units:

  • Unit 01 Developing counselling skills
  • Unit 02 Theoretical approaches in the use of counselling skills
  • Unit 03 Working ethically with counselling skills
  • Unit 04 Counselling skills and diversity
  • Unit 05 Counselling skills and personal development.


Students will also study Level 2 OCN qualification or Level 2 Laser qualification.
Students must be completely committed to hard work and are required to maintain full attendance (100%) throughout the course.

Course Highlights

We offer fantastic extra-curricular activities such as Macmillan fund raising and Walking for health at Macmillan Resource Centre at Croydon University Hospital and many more volunteering opportunities to support your personal development.

Get involved in HIV awareness days and encourage people to get tested for HIV.

Students will have the opportunity to review their progression journey with The National Careers Service.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to Level 4 counselling qualifications.

Assessment

To be awarded the Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills learners are required to successfully complete 5 mandatory units.

The Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills is internally assessed.

Entry Requirements

Proficiency in written and spoken English needs to be demonstrated:

GCSEs – grades A* – C / 9 – 4 

Functional Skills Level 2 

Recognised non-UK GCSE equivalencies in English and Maths preferred

We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

Universities are increasingly asking for GCSEs or Functional Skills (Level 2) as part of their entry criteria please note that it is the responsibility of the student to ensure their current and future qualifications comply with the entry requirements of any university to which they intend to progress.

Financial eligibility:

You need to have evidence that you meet general discretionary Learner Support Funds or 19+ Advanced Learning Loan bursary fund criteria. Check if you’re eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan by contacting Student Finance England.

Repaying your loan:

Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding Advanced Learner Loan balances you owe for an Access to HE course once you complete a higher education course. This means you do not have to repay it.
