All assessment is project based. You will be taught content that you then take into an assessment project to show what you have learnt. You will need to demonstrate the skills and techniques covered in sessions within your assessments and you will have to keep either written, video or audio logs to evidence you working. You will also have research projects covering the music industry where you undertake personal research tasks to show your understanding of a topic.

Each assessment is graded as pass, merit or distinction and at the end of the year your final grade is calculated on what you achieved across all of the projects.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grades 9-4/A*-C OR A related Level 2 vocational course at Merit or higher (if a pass grade is achieved GCSE grades and/or functional skills results may also be considered);

Including a GCSE at grade 9-4/A*-C (or equivalent) in English or Mathematics OR English and Mathematics assessed at Level 1 or above by College assessment.

If you are a performer you will need to audition 2 pieces on your chosen instrument or as a vocalist. You will need to bring the backing tracks in for the audition or have the YouTube links for the instrumental version of the song. You may also audition your own compositions where possible for the 2 tracks. If you are a producer you will need to bring in 2 projects you have worked on previously to play and discuss how you created the tracks.

Mature applicants may be considered on relevant experience without having the required entry requirements. However, an interview will always be required.

A satisfactory reference may also be requested.
