Course Overview
This course is designed as an introductory level that will teach the basic skills and processes required to pursue a career in Plumbing. It gives you the opportunity to pick up core skills and knowledge to progress to our Level 2 plumbing courses. You will cover subjects including: Central heating systems, Drainage, Hot and cold water systems, Electrical and scientific principles, and Health and safety practices.

Course Highlights
You will be learning basic skills and knowledge and will be supervised as you undertake various practical and knowledge-based activities. We offer excellent facilities and well-qualified teachers who have an extensive background in the industry.
You will have the opportunity to undertake enrichment activities outside of Croydon College, with regular trips to exhibitions such as Eco-Build at the Excel Centre and on-site visits to construction sites.
A key distinguishing feature of the college is our links with employers and the ways in which we incorporate this into your learning. Employers attend our popular employability events and you can discuss Apprenticeships and progression opportunities in our Employability Hub or in the Apprenticeship Office.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
Completion of this course can lead to progression onto Level 2 Plumbing, any other Level 2 course in building trades or an apprenticeship.

Assessment
This course is assessed through two methods:
Practical Tasks – These must be completed in a dedicated workshop environment, where you will compile a portfolio as evidence of your work.
Online Multiple-Choice Tests – You will complete ten unit tests designed to assess your knowledge and understanding of the subject.

Entry Requirements
GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) in English and maths. Equivalence of these qualifications will be considered. Evidence of a commitment to learn and the ability to study at this level shown at interview.
