Course Overview

Do you want to learn how to make your own beats? Or create studio recordings and live performances that inspire your audience?

This music technology course teaches you the skills you need to start a career in music including:

Recording vocals and instruments in the studio

Producing tracks using industry standard DAWs such as Logic Pro and Ableton

Creating live performances working as the performer or live sound engineer

Studying the music industry and your career path



Course Highlights

Every day you will be able to use industry standard studio spaces to produce and record your tracks. At the end of each year you will put on a gig showing your skills as producers, sound engineers and performers. You will be creating the styles of music you want to, enabling you to form who you are as an artist or producer.

Assessment

All assessment is project based. You will be taught content that you then take into an assessment project to show what you have learnt. You will need to demonstrate the skills and techniques covered in sessions within your assessments and you will have to keep either written, video or audio logs to evidence you working. You will also have research projects covering the music industry where you undertake personal research tasks to show your understanding of a topic.

Each assessment is graded as pass, merit or distinction and at the end of the year your final grade is calculated on what you achieved across all of the projects.



Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs grade 9-4 (A*-C) or a related Level 2 vocational qualification (at merit or higher), including English and maths.Equivalence of these qualifications will be considered. If you are a performer you will need to audition two pieces on your chosen instrument or as a vocalist. You will need to bring the backing tracks in for the audition or have the YouTube links for the instrumental version of the song. You may also audition your own compositions. If you are a producer you will need to bring in two projects you have worked on previously to play and discuss how you created the tracks.
