Useful Information
This course provides the opportunity to develop highly
specialist, work-related knowledge and skills in the design, development and
maintenance of engineering products and systems. This is a practical course and
follows an electronic and material engineering pathway.

Course Overview
Students will complete a variety of projects and assignments
based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The practical
work undertaken is underpinned by theory sessions delivered by specialist
engineering lecturers.

- Electrics and Electronic Principles
- Properties and Applications of Engineering
Materials
- Principles and Applications of Electronics Devices and
Circuits
- Mathematics for Engineering

The College runs a number of educational experiences each
year to enable students to contextualise their learning. These experiences
include trips, work experience and presentations by visiting
speakers.
Students undertaking this course will be expected to
complete a work placement within an engineering based
company.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
The Level 3 Diploma is equivalent to two A Levels and
allows progression onto an Engineering related higher education qualification
such as Electrical or Materials Engineering or into employment fields such as
Research, Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance and Material
Development.

Assessment
This course is 33% exam based.

Entry Requirements
Students wishing to do BTEC Level 3 courses, need to have
(or expect to achieve) at least four GCSE passes at Grade 4 or above including
English and Mathematics. This course is being offered to 19+ Learners only.
Students should also gain the following GCSE
grade:
- Grade 4 in Science and Grade 4 in
Maths
