Course Overview

This qualification provides an ideal taster for learners who may be new to the sector or new to the world of work. It is accessible to learners of all ages who may want to understand more about working in health and social care. It aims to introduce some basic concepts of caring and preparation for employment in the sector. It aims to introduce knowledge around the following areas relating to working in adult social care. It is a practical, work-related course. You will learn by completing projects and coursework based on realistic workplace situations, activities, and demands. As well as learning about employment in the care sector, you will develop the knowledge and skills needed for starting a valuable career in this area. You will need to develop good study skills including the ability to research independently and meet deadlines. You will be required to source a variety of work placements, and there are two exams in each year.

This qualification is aimed at learners interested in, or new to, working in adult social care in England.

Career Opportunities & Further Study

Learners can progress onto qualifications for management or lead practitioner roles in adult care, or to specialist qualifications reflecting the context in which they work. Learners can progress into employment in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres or some clinical healthcare settings within job roles such as:

• Senior Care Support Worker • Lead Personal Assistant.



Assessment

All units within these qualifications are internally assessed. The qualifications are criterion referenced, based on the achievement of all the specified learning outcomes.

Entry Requirements

Level 3 - Minimum 2 GCSEs grade 3 or above, one being English or Maths. Related Level 2 vocational qual at Merit or above (if Pass GCSE and/or Functional Skills results can be considered) English & Maths at L1 or above. Evidence of commitment to learn. 
DBS check to be done at enrolment.
An interest in Health and Social Care and a clean DBS check.
• Positive reference including a high level of attendance and punctuality. • You will need to source a work placement for 60hrs.
