This course is an ideal introduction for students who are
committed to working in the area of Health and Social Services. It is a one year
course which leads to a qualification equivalent to one GCSE at Grade 9 – 4.
Topics covered include Communication, Individual Rights, Cultural Diversity and
Human Lifespan Development.

The College runs a number of educational experiences each
year to enable the students to contextualise their learning. These experiences
include trips and visiting speakers. Health & Social
Care students have opportunities to be involved in local community
events.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
This qualification shows that students can apply concepts
and interpret practical situations. It will provide them with a strong grounding
for further study at Coulsdon College in BTEC Level 3, or progression on to an
apprenticeship scheme.

Assessment
This course is assessed through a mixture of course work and
external examinations.
Students will begin to work on their analytical skills,
through self analysis, which they will build upon if they choose to continue to
study Health and Social Care at BTEC Level 3.
The exam board for this course is Pearson
BTEC.

Entry Requirements
Two 2 and three 3 grades at GCSE including English and
Mathematics minimum Grade 2 or equivalent qualifications (a Pass or higher at
BTEC Level 2 is accepted as part of the GCSE Grades).
This course will suit students if they:
Demonstrate an interest in the caring professions Show
willingness to learn Are able to meet coursework deadlines Students should
enjoy and be good at working with others, communicating in speech and writing,
planning their own learning and meeting deadlines. The ability to use
information technology is also important.
