This course will provide you with the basic skills and understanding needed to work in the construction industry. You will get a practical introduction to a variety of skills as well as an introduction to the background knowledge required to succeed. All of these skills are in demand in the industry so you can decide which construction route suits you best.

You will be introduced to a range of skills:

Brickwork

Plastering

Woodwork

Painting

Decorating

Tiling

Good English and Maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.

Specialist Facilities:

This programme is delivered by our fully trained and professional staff who have years of industry and site experience. You will also benefit from being trained in our modern and fully equipped workshops.

Trips and Activities:

You will have the opportunity to undertake enrichment activities outside of Croydon College, with regular trips to exhibitions such as Eco-Build at the Excel Centre and on-site visits to construction sites.

Each year there is an intercollege construction and building services competition. Prizes and certificates are awarded and winners have the opportunity to enter the World Skills Competition along with other FE colleges.

Employers attend our popular employability events and you can discuss apprenticeships and progression opportunities in our employability hub or in the apprenticeship office. You will also have the opportunity to work closely with local community developments to support your project work and to provide real-life work experience.

After having studied this course you will be able to progress on to any of our following courses:

Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry
Level 2 Diploma in Building Maintenance, Multi-trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations
Level 2 Plumbing
Alternatively, you could enter employment in the construction industry as an apprentice via one of our many construction apprenticeships.

Evidence of a commitment to learn and the ability to study at this level shown at interview; including GCSE English and Mathematics at grade 2 or equivalent.
