This is a practical course that will give students the opportunity to complete assignments and activities based on real-life situations linked to a variety of well-known businesses. The course is enhanced by external visits, which provide students with the context for their work. This course is assessed through coursework, which includes presentations, role play and other practical elements, as well as traditional business formats, including an exam. The course aims to provide students with the independent working and communication skills necessary for both employment and further education.
The Subsidiary Diploma is equivalent to one A Level.
To provide the knowledge, understanding and skills that allow students to gain business sector experience that will prepare them for further study or training.The learning programme covers the following mandatory content areas;

Students will enjoy this course if they:
Students should have a general interest in how businesses work. They should also be comfortable with ICT and enjoy group work, problem solving, presentations, working with numbers and meeting deadlines.
This course is assessed through coursework. Students will complete mandatory units. The points achieved on each unit will be added together to form an overall grade.
The exam board for this course is Pearson BTEC.
Students wishing to do BTEC Level 3 courses, need to have (or expect to achieve) at least four GCSE passes at Grade 4 or above. Additionally for Business, English minimum Grade 4 and Maths minimum Grade 4 or equivalent qualifications (a Merit or higher at BTEC Level 2 in the same subject is accepted as part of the 4 GCSE passes).
