Useful Information
If you have an interest in the health and social care of
people in the community, then this course is for you. There will be 100 hours of
compulsory work experience which will be incorporated into the course. This
course enables students to reach a standard equivalent to 3 A Levels through
coursework and assessment.
Many students go on to do Degree and Diploma courses in
Health and Social Care related subjects, however, it should be noted that many
of these courses (Nursing and Midwifery for example), require students to take
other Science subjects alongside this course.
All students will undergo a DBS check as part of
safeguarding legislation.

Course Specific Trips & Visits
The College runs a number of educational experiences each
year to enable the students to contextualise their learning. These experiences
include trips, visiting speakers and work experience.
Health and Social Care students are actively involved in
local community events as well as their work experience placements in a range of
health care settings.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
You could take this course to prepare for higher
education in Health and Social Care or more general higher education courses as
the course offers skills that are useful in lots of subjects. With further
training, you could go into a job related to Health and Social Care such as a
Nurse, Midwife, Dietician, Teacher or areas of Social Work. The course will also
help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers
across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the social
sectors.

Assessment
This course is assessed through coursework (72%) and an exam
over the two years. Students will complete a number of units of coursework. The
points achieved on each unit will be added together to form an overall
grade.
The awarding body for this course is Pearson
BTEC.

Entry Requirements
Students wishing to do BTEC Level 3 courses, need to have
(or expect to achieve) at least four GCSE passes at Grade 4 or above with
Mathematics at 3 or better (and a satisfactory school reference) in order to be
accepted on a BTEC Level 3 Programme.
In addition, students should meet the following minimum GCSE
requirements:
- Grade 4 in English Language
- Students will also need to have DBS
check.
