Course Overview
The Level 3 Access to HE Diploma is a nationally recognised
qualification regulated by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education
(QAA).
This diploma will help you get the qualifications you need
to study at university. The qualification will provide you with a broad
understanding of crime and the criminal justice system, whilst also covering
topics such as psychology, forensics, sociology and
victimology.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
The qualification gives you the relevant academic subject
knowledge needed for higher education study and the opportunity to develop study
skills to help you to succeed. It is well established and widely accepted by
universities, qualifying for UCAS tariff points that are comparable to the
tariff points for three A levels.
Learners primarily progress to Higher Education study in
areas related to Policing and Criminology. These may include some of the
following areas of Degree level study:
o Policing o Criminology o Policing and
Forensics o Criminology and Law o Criminology and
Psychology o Sociology with Criminology and a wide range of combined and
related degrees.

Assessment
In order the gain the Access to HE Diploma, learners must
achieve a total of 60 credits. Of these 60 credits, 45 credits must be achieved
at Level 3 from graded subject specific units. Graded units can be awarded
at Pass, Merit or Distinction. The remaining 15 credits must be from study
skills units which are ungraded.
The core subjects for Access to HE Criminology and Law are
study skills, policing, criminology and Law, psychology and sociology.
o The Access to Criminology and Law course is
delivered over three days approx. 10am to 5pm. o Class tutors will use a
variety of assessment methods: formal reports, presentations, written
assessments, in-class and practice assessments under controlled conditions,
exams, case studies and reflective statements. o Tutorial support is
embedded into the programme.

Entry Requirements
You must be aged 19 and above. Each application will be
considered on an individual basis:
Selection is by interview, initial screening, literacy and
numeracy assessments.
• Candidates are required to have GCSE English Language
grade C or grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2 • GCSE maths - C or
grade 4 or Functional Skills Level 2 • Equivalent overseas academic
qualifications will be accepted on this course. • A satisfactory
reference must be received.
Universities are increasingly asking for English and Maths
GCSEs or Functional Skills at Level 2 as part of their entry
criteria.
The Access course is an intensive course and will prepare you for the
demands of a University degree. Think carefully about how you are going to
balance your work, family and
social life with your Access studies.
