Course Overview
This exciting course is designed to introduce an advanced
insight to Art and Design which gives learners the opportunity to acquire and
develop specialist, transferable and industry-specific skills in order to
complete tasks and demonstrate a higher level of achievement that enables them
to progress to higher learning, or creative apprenticeships for
progression.
Students will carry out a number of guided workshops,
including studio-based practice such as, Painting, 3D Sculpture, Printmaking,
Photography, Digital Design, 3D Art Making Workshop and Fashion and Textiles.
The course is evidence based, learners build up creative portfolios which are
submitted at two key assessment points.
Topics includes:
Developing individual visual language. Image and mark
making through material and media manipulation. 2D Art (Painting, Drawing,
Print-making, Illustration/Graphic Design). 3D Art (Sculpture, Ceramics,
Fashion/Textile Design, Product Design). XD Art (Graphic Design, Photography
and Film-making, Animation & Games Design, Installation). Collaborative
projects with creative professionals through museums and studio
visit. Developing a portfolio for professional practice and higher
studies.

Course Highlights
Students will receive individual guidance from specialist
technician’s assistance to develop their art works through a practical mode of
study.Students will learn to experiment and manipulate
by creating Drawing, Print-Making, Painting, Ceramics, Graphic Design, Analogue
and Digital Photography, Games and Animation and Film-Making.
Access to the well-resourced technical facilities, studios
and workshops include darkroom, ceramics kiln and glazing, professional
photoshoot studio and 3D making workshops for all disciplines.
The course encourages learners to take on individual
research, enabling students to be further prepared for higher studies and
creative industries. Taught sessions may include hands on practical learning and
guidance from practicing artists and designers, students develop specialist
creative industry knowledge and an artistic curiosity.
Additionally, students will receive advise and support from
experts from recognised universities for writing personal statements for UCAS
applications with help on appropriate routes and portfolio
preparation.
This course includes work experience, enrichment activities,
exhibitions and collaborative projects.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
By providing a broader sector experience this course Level 3
Extended Diploma in Art & Design encourages students to progress onto
specialist courses at Degree, Higher National Diploma, or Foundation Degree
level at universities and colleges and careers in the creative
industries.
On completion students will be able to progress to Higher
Education or join apprenticeship programs in the creative industries.
Throughout this course students will have access to a
dedicated team of careers and education advisors who will help to achieve the
next steps towards a successful.

Assessment
Assessment of the internal and external units for this
course is designed to fit the purpose and objective of the course– giving
learners the opportunity to demonstrate skills developed in applied
scenarios.
All units are graded to encourage skills development and
performance. Units are assessed using a grading scale of Distinction, Merit,
Pass and Unclassified. Grading has been introduced at this level as a result of
feedback from users and practitioners of the qualification.

Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at grades 9-4/A*-C OR A related Level 2
vocational course at Merit or higher (if a pass grade is achieved GCSE grades
and/or functional skills results may also be considered);
AND;
Including a GCSE at grade 9-4/A*-C (or equivalent) in
English or Mathematics OR English and Mathematics assessed at Level 1 or above
by College assessment.
AND;
Art portfolio, containing recent examples of artwork,
sketchbooks, photography work, or any creative work you have done. This
could be both course work and work you have created in your own time.
A satisfactory reference may also be
requested.
