This course aims to develop an appreciation of the
competencies, skills and knowledge required for higher education and
employment in Science-based careers. It is designed to give you a detailed
understanding of medical science and the application of science to real
situations in the workplace.

Course Overview
Students will study a range of units on the BTEC programme
covering all of the core sciences and specialising in the medical application of
each discipline. Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to
complete practical investigations and experiments, as well as develop their
research and independent study skills. Units studied:

Course Specific Trips & Visits
The College runs a number of educational experiences each
year to enable students to contextualise their learning. These experiences
include trips and presentations by visiting speakers.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
This qualification will provide students with the
opportunity to specialise in Medical Science and specific areas within this,
such as Human Physiology and Medical Science techniques in various fields.
Students could progress on to medically related degree courses such as
Biomedical Sciences, Genetics and Radiography or careers in laboratory-based
industries.

Assessment
The course is assessed via exam (50%) and coursework
(50%).
The exam board for this course is Pearson
EDEXCEL.

Entry Requirements
Students wishing to do BTEC Level 3 courses, need to have
(or expect to achieve) at least four GCSE passes at Grade 4 or above including
English (and a satisfactory school reference) in order to be accepted on a BTEC
Level 3 Programme.
Students must also gain the additional GCSE
grade:
- Grade 5 in Science and Grade 4 in
Maths
