Course Overview

On the course you will be taught a wide range of techniques and application of photography. These will include photographic studio practice, darkroom, digital photography, digital postproduction, exhibiting work, alternative analogue processes, location photography, portrait, and landscape photography.

The extended programme enables your portfolio development, self-branding, professional and creative behaviour’s. This could include working to a live art and design brief. The course explores historical context and contemporary practice. It further investigates the role of photography and its relationship with other visual media. You will be taught how to discuss visual images using current examples from industry or art-based language, allowing you to become original and effective at interpreting a photographic image.

Assessment
Assessment is through four modules, Skills Development, A Creative project in the first-year diploma. For the extended diploma there is further two modules that focus on a progression brief and Industry creative brief as a final project. These are supported through lectures, practical assignments, group discussions, essays and regular educational visits to galleries and museums. You will take part in regular discussions about progress with your tutor.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grades 9-4/A*-C OR A related Level 2 vocational course at Merit or higher (if a pass grade is achieved GCSE grades and/or functional skills results may also be considered);

Including a GCSE at grade 9-4/A*-C (or equivalent) in English or Mathematics OR English and Mathematics assessed at Level 1 or above by College assessment.

Art portfolio, containing recent examples of artwork, sketchbooks, photogra­phy work, or any creative work you have done. This could be both course work and work you have created in your own time.

Mature applicants may be considered on relevant experience without having the required entry requirements. However, an interview will always be required.

A satisfactory reference may also be requested.
