The BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Travel & Tourism is an
exciting and engaging programme of study, helping students gain the knowledge
and practical skills required in the Travel & Tourism sector. Students will
study a wide range of travel related topics in a practical and work related
environment.
BTEC is a nationally recognised qualification which focuses
on independent learning, practical knowledge and skills. The programme offers
flexibility and choice of emphasis through the optional
units.

Course Highlights
Course Specific Trips & Visits
The College runs a number of educational experiences each
year to enable students to contextualise their learning. These experiences
include trips, visiting speakers, residentials and work experience. Visits have
been made to the De Vere Selsdon Estate to explore the workings of The Front
Office, Nutfield Priory and Hallmark Hotel. Visits this year will include
Majestic Wines, The Hilton Hotel Croydon, No.1 Lounge (who also come in annually
to recruit staff), Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and The Food and Drink
Expo.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
Many Travel and Tourism students decide to take up a place
at university studying one of a number of degrees related to this subject.
Popular degree courses include Event Management, Tourism Management or
Hospitality Management.
Other students may opt to gain some valuable industry
experience, for example in the Airline Industry, Resort Services, Tourism and
Hospitality or Trainee Management posts.
A qualification in Travel and Tourism will help provide
students with essential knowledge of the industry and help prepare them for
Higher Education or employment.

Assessment
Students will enjoy this course if they are able
to:
- Complete coursework in many different forms
- Simulate activities such as welcome meetings for tour
arrivals
- Engage in practical work such as planning and running a
residential trip
- Complete independent research
The course is assessed purely through coursework. Students
will complete 3 units of coursework in each year of the course.
The exam board for this course is Pearson
BTEC.

Entry Requirements
Students wishing to do BTEC Level 3 courses, need to have
(or expect to achieve) at least four GCSE passes at Grade 4 or above including
English and Mathematics (and a satisfactory school reference) in order to be
accepted on a BTEC Level 3 Programme.
