Course Overview

This qualification is for learners aged pre-16 and above and is suitable for use within a Study Programme.

It will give learners the introductory skills to either start a career in sport or progress within employment in the sector. This qualification can also prepare learners for higher or further education and gives a good introduction to the sport vocation.

These qualifications aim to:

• give learners the introductory skills and knowledge to start a career in sport of progress with employment in the sector

• prepare learners for higher or further education, through full-time or part-time study.

 

The objectives of these qualifications are to help learners to:

• choose a pathway and units that reflect their career or academic aspirations

• enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector or to progress to higher or further education or onto the Level 3 Sport qualifications

• gain and develop essential skills that are valued by employers and higher and further education institutions

• develop knowledge and understanding of the vocational sector



Career Opportunities & Further Study

Learners who achieve these qualifications could progress to:

 

• Intermediate Apprenticeship in Exercise and Fitness

• Intermediate Apprenticeship in Activity Leadership

• Level 3 Certificate, Diploma or Extended Diploma in Sport

• Level 3 Award in Nutrition for Physical Activity

 



Assessment

Portfolio of Evidence

 

Each learner is required to create a portfolio of evidence which demonstrates achievement of 100% of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit. On completion of each unit learners must declare that the work produced is their own.



Entry Requirements

Three GCSEs at grades 3/D as a minimum OR a related Level 1 vocational qualification;

AND;

Including a GCSE at grade 3/D (or equivalent) as a minimum in English OR English and Mathematics assessed at Entry 3 or above by College assessment.

Mature applicants may be considered on relevant experience without having the required entry requirements. However, an interview will always be required.

A satisfactory reference will also be requested showing a minimum of 85% attendance.
