Course Overview
This course provide learners with the knowledge and understanding essential to the health and social care sector, supporting progression to further learning or the workplace.

Course Highlights
Students will be provided with the opportunity of participating in community charity events, visits to Health & Care settings and museums as well as work placement.

Upon achievement of this qualification, students will be able to access Higher Education and progress into a wide range of job roles within the health and social care sector such as:

Care Support Workers in Adult Residential Settings

Healthcare Assistants in Community, Primary Care and Acute Health Environments

Care Support Workers in Domiciliary Services, Supported Living or Day Services

Community-Based Support Workers.

Completion of this qualification will equip students with the essential knowledge and skills required to progress to Higher Education in a related field of study, for example:

The functions of national and local health and social care provision
The roles and responsibilities of the health and social care practitioner when empowering individuals.
How outcomes of serious case reviews inform practice in the health and social care sector.
How to obtain and record physiological measurements.
How to reflect on and plan for personal and professional development within the health and social care sector carrying out a research project.



Assessment

In order to achieve the Technical Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, students must achieve the internally assessed unit assessments for:

14 mandatory units
4 Optional  units


Learners must also achieve:

Certificate External Assessment (HSC1)
Extended Diploma  External Assessment (HSED2)
Short Answer Examination (HSC/SAE) (Unit HSC DM 3.1)
They must also complete a minimum of 175 placement hours.



Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grades 9-4/A*-C OR A related Level 2 vocational course at Merit or higher (if a pass grade is achieved GCSE grades and/or functional skills results may also be considered);

AND;

Including a GCSE at grade 9-4/A*-C (or equivalent) in English or Mathematics OR English and Mathematics assessed at Level 1 or above by College assessment.

AND;

You will need to complete a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check once en­rolled onto the course, which the College will pay for if you are aged between 16-18 when you start the course.

Mature applicants may be considered on relevant experience without having the required entry requirements. However, an interview will always be required.

A satisfactory reference may also be requested.
