Course Overview

Our excellent resources and outstanding teachers make Hair and Beauty at Croydon College the place to continue your journey within the industry.

This course will develop and build upon the skills that you will have learnt on a Level 2 course, enabling you to become an advanced, highly qualified and professional hairdresser and enhancing the skills needed for employability or university pathways through UCAS. This programme will consist of theory and practical sessions, developing your skills in advanced cutting, colour correction and the application of creative colour, style and dressing hair and creative hair design skills.

You will gain qualities and skills that will give you the best possible opportunity to progress and to secure a career in the hair and beauty industry.

Please note that due to the highly professional nature of the hair and beauty industry, you will be required to wear a uniform whilst you are in the salon, details of which will be given to you at enrolment. We would also like you to invest in your future career by purchasing a kit, consisting of all of the necessary salon equipment, which will aid your successful completion of this course.

Good English and Maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.

Course Highlights

You will be given the most wonderful training within the professional Redken range alongside Keracare and Mazani which is delivered as part of your knowledge and understanding of the diverse products that we use at Croydon College.

You will have the opportunity to take part in many internal and external events and competitions which will give you the skills and competitiveness to ensure you are a step ahead when you’re seeking employment within what is a competitive industry. You may be nominated for student of the year which is a very high achievement to have on your CV for future employers. We compete in World skills and Association of Hairdressers and Therapists which are national competitions, where we have successfully reached the UK finals in both.  You will also have the chance to attend hairdressing exhibitions and off-site training sessions to capture a sense of the vibrant and prosperous industry you have chosen to enter.

You will be given the opportunity to gain work experience via a work placement one day per week. This experience will enable you to appreciate the industry and gain invaluable knowledge.

A key distinguishing feature of the college is our links with employers and the ways in which we incorporate this into your learning. Employers attend our popular employability events and you can discuss apprenticeships and progression opportunities in our Employability Hub or in the Apprenticeship Office.

Career Opportunities & Further Study

On completion of this course, you will be fully qualified as an advanced hairdresser, which will enable you to demonstrate your newly acquired skills and knowledge at a higher level for employability or higher education with university pathways through UCAS. Many learners decide to go to university after completing their Level 3 course to study Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management.

Through numerous links, our experienced lecturing staff within the Hair and Beauty department at Croydon College have helped newly qualified stylists and therapists to seek employment with top salons, spas and they will give you guidance on how you can use your skills to travel the world doing a job you love.

Assessment
Practical assessments will take place during your salon sessions and all of these are carried out on real clients and will be assessed by one of our highly trained professional members of staff.  Creative assignments and projects will be used to showcase your underpinning knowledge of each technical skill learnt and these will be used as evidence for your portfolio, alongside online exams.
