Course Overview
This course is designed for those who have an interest in
engineering, with a desire to have a career within this sector. We will provide
you with the practical experience and the technical knowledge to work in the
engineering industry and you will develop the skills that you will have learnt
on a Level 1 course. This programme is delivered through a combination of theory
lessons and practical work in our contemporary engineering workshop.
Throughout the course you will study a wide range of
subjects, including engineering marking out, interpreting and using engineering
information, using CAD, casting and moulding, and health and safety
practices.
Good English and Maths skills are essential for success in
studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that
these skills are developed in all learning
opportunities.

Course Highlights
Specialist Facilities:
This programme is delivered by our fully qualified and
professional staff. You will benefit from working with CAD/CAM machinery, a PLC
suite, Instrumentation & Control software and hardware, Rapid Prototyper (3D
Printer), as well as industry standard workshops with modern
technology.
You will have the opportunity to design and manufacture an
engineered project component. This will be achieved by using computer aided
design and the engineering milling and lathe machine tools.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
Completion of this course can lead to progression to our
Level 3 engineering programme.
Alternatively, you can enter employment as an apprentice
within the engineering industry. Future careers can include aerospace
engineering, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, and aircraft
maintenance.

Assessment
You will be assessed over nine units, each with four
written assignments. There will also be an additional three or four
exams.

Entry Requirements
Three GCSEs at grades 3/D as a minimum OR a related Level 1
vocational qualification;
AND;
Including a GCSE at grade 4/C (or equivalent) as a minimum
in English and Mathematics OR English and Mathematics assessed at
Level 2 or above by College assessment.
Mature applicants may be considered on relevant experience
without having the required entry requirements. However, an interview will
always be required.
A satisfactory reference may also be
requested.
