Course Overview

This qualification is designed to provide a standardised approach for the delivery and assessment of the knowledge and skills requirements. This VRQ also provides the knowledge requirements for its related VCQ and forms the knowledge component of the IMI SSC Maintenance and Repair Advanced Apprenticeship framework (for Light Vehicle).

The Level 3 programme is broken down into four technical sections to include the four main vehicle areas designated by the National Occupational Standards developed by IMI.

  • Advance Chassis Technology (Unit LV08LV)
  • Advance Engine Technology (LV07LV)
  • Advanced Transmission Technology (LV13LV)
  • Advanced Electrical and Electronic Technology (AE06)


Course Highlights

IMI Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles (VRQ)

A minimum of 78 credits must be achieved for this qualification.

Group A: 29 credits from the 6 Mandatory Units.

Note: The programme assumes that the content for units G0102, G3 and G4 have already been met at Level 2.



Career Opportunities & Further Study

When a student has achieved this course, they can then choose to broaden their education and training in other ways from this firm base.

They can choose:

  • To carry on studying Level 4 and upwards
  • To start Apprenticeship scheme
  • To go into Industry, to work as technician


Assessment

The assessment of IMI level 3 is made up of three components which are set by IMI:

  • Practical tasks
  • Online testing
  • Written assignment / coursework


Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grades 9-4/A*-C OR A related Level 2 vocational course at Merit or higher (if a pass grade is achieved GCSE grades and/or functional skills results may also be considered);

AND;

Including a GCSE at grade 9-4/A*-C (or equivalent) in English or Mathematics OR English and Mathematics assessed at Level 1 or above by College assessment.

Mature applicants may be considered on relevant experience without having the required entry requirements. However, an interview will always be required.

A satisfactory reference may also be requested.
