Course Overview

This one year practical vocational course is the equivalent of four GCSE grades A*-C and it will provide you with an interesting and stimulating approach to the study of science. This course covers a wide range of scientific disciplines and it is a good choice if you are interested in developing an understanding of science and how to solve scientific problems. It is made up a number of core and optional units. As part of the course you will be able to undertake your own scientific research project as well as completing practical assessments. Other units in the course will cover aspects of physics, chemistry, biology, the environment, health and disease and the universe. Good English and Maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.

Course Highlights

Specialist Facilities:

This programme is delivered by our fully qualified and professional staff. You will benefit from learning in our modern, well-equipped laboratories in which numerous practical skills in electronic, microbiological, forensic, and physiological techniques are developed, as well as standard laboratory practices.

Trips and Activities:

You will have the opportunity to go on trips and visits as well as working with guest speakers from the industry and running mini projects. Examples of visits include trips to Ecology Centres to look at environmental management and working with external organisations with regard to planning a mini eco-project.

Guest speakers that have featured previously in the programme have included working forensic scientists, as a taster for one of the Level 3 pathways to which you can progress.

A key distinguishing feature of the college is our links with employers and the ways in which we incorporate this into your learning. Employers attend our popular employability events and you can discuss apprenticeships and progression opportunities in our employability Hub or in the apprenticeship Office.
