Course Overview
The Level 3 Certificate in Childcare and Education prepares
learners to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of
children aged 5 to 7 years.
Upon achievement of this qualification, it is intended that
students will be able to enter the workforce as early year’s
educators.
Childcare courses are designed to equip students with the
skills needed to look after children. Therefore, it is important to be
emotionally balanced and resilient to cope with challenging situations and the
demands of working within the childcare sector. You will need to be creative,
enthusiastic and enjoy working with children.

Employment as an Early Years Educator, Classroom Learning
Support Assistant, Nanny, Child-Minder, or Play Worker, or progress to higher
education studying subject areas such as early years teaching, nursing,
midwifery, social work, or a degree of your choice. You can also consider
joining our part-time Foundation Degree in Early Years Care &
Education.

Assessment
This programme incorporates experience within a real work
environment which is an integral part of the course and takes place in an early
years setting for a minimum of 2 days per week plus block assessment
weeks.
Assessment is in the form of 8 Unit assignments, an
effective practice study task and an extended assessment task, together with
direct observation of practical skills and knowledge in a real work
environment.

Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at grades 9-4/A*-C OR A related Level 2
vocational course at Merit or higher (if a pass grade is achieved GCSE grades
and/or functional skills results may also be considered);
AND;
Including a GCSE at grade 9-4/A*-C (or equivalent) in
English or Mathematics OR English and Mathematics assessed at Level 1 or above
by College assessment.
AND;
You will need to complete a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service)
check once enrolled onto the course, which the College will pay for if you
are aged between 16-18 when you start the course..
Mature applicants may be considered on relevant experience
without having the required entry requirements. However, an interview will
always be required.
A satisfactory reference may also be
requested.
