Course Overview

This award is designed for technicians who maintain and repair electric/hybrid vehicles. It contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely in and around the vehicle's high and low voltage electrical system and electric drive train system whilst carrying out repairs or maintenance.


This unit introduces learners to electric/hybrid vehicle (all variations) technology including, and in particular, the safety requirements of working on these types of vehicles, e.g. whilst carrying out routine vehicle servicing, general repairs that are not related to the high energy electrical system.


Note: This unit does not prove that someone is competent to work on the motor vehicle high energy electrical system, and assumes an existing good level of electrical understanding. This unit does not cover commercial or domestic electrical installations, including charging equipment and cables.



Course Highlights

The course structure is a combination of in the classroom and workshop. It will be theoretical and practical based.

Possible progression to IMI Level 3 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle
System Repair and Replacement. Upskilling technicians who maintain and repair electric/hybrid vehicles. It contains the skills and knowledge required to work safely around a vehicle's high and low voltage electrical system and electric drive train system, whilst carrying out repairs or maintenance. On completing this qualification, technicians will have gained knowledge of both low and high voltage technologies and an understanding of their dangers.

Entry Requirements
English and Maths both at minimum Level 1 /GCSE 3 or above/ GCSE D or above
Individuals must hold Vehicle Maintenance and Repair knowledge and skills at Level
2.
