Course Overview

This qualification allows you to develop your knowledge surrounding the different aspects of business administration including:

The principles of providing administrative services

Business documentation production

Information management

Understanding communication in a business environment and employer organisations

How to develop working relationships with colleagues

How to prepare text from recorded notes.

Upon completion of this course, you could go on to study for their business administration degree. UK and international learners may benefit from first completing one of our other courses, such as the Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Leadership and Management.



Course Highlights

Unit 1: Principles of providing administrative services

In this unit learners will develop their knowledge of different administrative tasks, meeting types, mail services and organising travel and accommodation. You will also learn about the impact of delivering poor customer service.

Unit 2: Principles of business document production and information management

In this unit learners will learn how to prepare and distribute business documents and identify how information is managed in business organisations. This includes the importance of house style and document version control, how security, data protection, copyright and intellectual property legislation may affect distribution and storage of business documents and integrating images into documents.

Unit 3: Understand communication in a business environment

This unit will provide learners with an understanding of written and verbal business communication, including how to identify appropriate body language and tone of voice for verbal communication.

Unit 4: Understand employer organisations

This unit will provide learners with an understanding of the differences between private, public and voluntary sectors. Learners will be able to describe the internal and external influences on organisations and why change in the business environment is important.

Unit 5: Understand how to develop working relationships with colleagues

In this unit learners will develop their understanding of effective team working, including what is expected of a buddy and techniques for providing feedback. You will also learn about conflict management techniques that may be used to manage conflicts.

Unit 6: Understand how to carry out business administration tasks

This unit will provide learners with an understanding of how to carry out different business administration tasks, including how to deal with incoming and outgoing mail, managing diary systems and event organisation and finance for administrators.

Unit 7: Understand how to prepare text

This unit will provide learners with an understanding of how to create text from recorded notes and different organisational procedures for storing information in a secure and confidential manner.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this course; however, learners should have a minimum of level one in literacy or equivalent.

Our Level 1 and 2 distance learning courses are free if eligible for government funding if you meet the following criteria:

Must be aged 19 and over.

If aged 19-23, you must hold a full Level 2 qualification or above (five GCSEs/O Levels grade A-C/9-4, two or three AS Levels, one A Level, NVQ Level 2, First Certificate or Principle of Learning Level 2).

If aged 24+ no qualifications are required.
