Course Overview
This is a compulsory course for students with a GCSE grade 3 or 2. It is aimed at developing students' skills in reading, writing and spoken communication through the study of a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
This is a one-year re-sit course designed to give students the necessary reading and writing skills to achieve a Grade 4 in English. This program prepares you for higher studies, vocational training or future career pathways. Successful candidates will be able to progress to A-Level or Level 3 BTEC qualifications, depending on the grades achieved.

Assessment
Students are assessed through two written examinations, each worth 50% of the final grade. Paper 1 focuses on explorations in creative reading and writing, where students analyse a fiction extract and produce their own piece of imaginative writing. Paper 2 explores writers’ viewpoints and perspectives, requiring students to compare non-fiction texts. Students will have the opportunity to take the examination in November or June based on mock results.

Entry Requirements
This course is designed to cater for students who need to improve their GCSE to a grade 4 or above.You will pick a selection of 5 GCSEs.
