Course Overview
This course is designed for those who have an interest in plumbing, with a desire to work in the building services or engineering sector. This qualification will assist in your progression to become a fully qualified plumber and you will develop and practise the skills required for employment and career progression.
You will cover an introduction to the following subjects:
Central heating systems
Drainage
Hot and cold water systems
Electrical and scientific principles
Health and safety practices.
Good English and maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities.
It’s also important to have good English and maths qualifications and so all students will study English and maths and work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE. This will be part of all 16-18 year old students’ Study Programme alongside their main vocational or academic qualification and will be discussed with students at interview.

This programme is delivered by our fully trained and
professional staff who have years of industry and site experience and you will
benefit from learning in our modern, well-equipped workshops.
You will have the opportunity to undertake enrichment
activities outside of Croydon College, with regular trips to exhibitions such as
Eco-Build at the Excel Centre and on-site visits to construction
sites.
A key distinguishing feature of the college is our links
with employers and the ways in which we incorporate this into your learning.
Employers attend our popular employability events and you can discuss
Apprenticeships and progression opportunities in our Employability Hub or in the
Apprenticeship Office.

Assessment
This course is assessed in two ways:
- There are practical tasks which have to be assessed in
our bespoke workshop environment; you will have to complete a portfolio of
evidence of all workshop tasks.
- There are ten online multiple choice unit tests which
assess your knowledge and understanding of the subject.

Entry Requirements
GCSE grade 9-1 (A*-F) in English or an ESOL Entry 3 qualification. You will also need GCSE grade 9-1 (A*-F) in maths. Equivalence of these qualifications will be considered.
Evidence of a commitment to learn and the ability to study at this level shown at interview.
