Studying Law provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the legal system’s role in modern society, while increasing their awareness of individual rights and responsibilities. This course equips students with the skills to study, analyze, apply, and evaluate legal issues, rules, and principles. They will learn to construct clear, coherent arguments and appreciate multiple on legal matters. By exploring legal rules and their real-life applications, students will also strengthen essential skills such as analytical thinking, decision-making, critical reasoning, and problem-solving.

Course Overview
In the first year, students will cover three core units: Dispute Solving Understanding Law-making Aspects of Legal Liability In the second year, the course focuses on three specialist units: Homicide and Police Powers Contract Law Tort Law These six units provide a solid foundation in legal studies, preparing students for further education or for applying legal principles in their personal and professional lives.

This qualification serves as a strong foundation for a variety of careers and higher education opportunities. Many students who complete the two-year course go on to Law at university. Recent graduates have progressed to universities such as Portsmouth, Winchester, Bournemouth, Kent, Sussex, and Surrey. In addition to Law, students have successfully pursued degrees in related fields, including: Youth Justice Criminology Business Social Work The skills and knowledge acquired during this course open doors to numerous career paths, including becoming a Legal Executive, entering the police force, working in the business or legal sectors, or even teaching.

Assessment
This course is designed for students who are eager to learn about the law and legal system but prefer an alternative to traditional written examinations. Assessment is based on a variety of assignments, which may include interviews, creating documentaries, debates, presentations, letters, and report writing. Both group work and independent study are integral to the course. The exam board for this BTEC is Pearson BTEC.

Entry Requirements
Students wishing to do BTEC Law Level 3 courses, need to have (or expect to achieve) at least five GCSE passes at Grade 4 or above including English and Mathematics and Grade 5 or above in English Language or History (and a satisfactory school reference) in order to be accepted.
