Course Overview
Students will study Pure Mathematics, Statistics, and Mechanics. Pure Mathematics develops the ideas met at GCSE, such as Algebra, Graphs, and Trigonometry. Mechanics discusses forces that act on bodies and any resultant motions with the help of modelling. Statistics is the study of data. Students must be competent in manipulating algebraic equations and should enjoy interpreting graphs.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
A Level Mathematics is a valuable qualification for a variety of Higher Education courses. A Mathematics qualification is essential for some subjects, such as Engineering, and beneficial for others, such as Biochemistry. Students pursuing a degree in Music will find Mathematics valuable when studying Acoustics. Many Mathematics graduates work in Accountancy, Computing, Engineering, Management or Teaching.

Assessment
The course is assessed by three 2-hour papers at the end of year 2, all papers are calculator-based. The exam board for this A Level is Edexcel.

Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs grade 9-4 and a satisfactory school reference.Including English Language at grade 5 and maths at grade
7 as a minimum. Most students taking this course will have obtained their grade from the higher GCSE paper.
