Useful Information
The main goal of this qualification is to prepare learners for careers in the music technology sector, such as musicians, arts officers, producers, directors, audio-visual and broadcasting equipment operators. It provides learners with knowledge about the music technology industry, recording, and technical equipment usage. This qualification equips learners with practical music technology skills, preparing them for various job roles in the sector. Throughout the course, learners will develop transferable skills including communication, independent learning, teamwork, analysis, and evaluation, which are sought after by employers in addition to technical knowledge. The content of the qualification aligns with the knowledge, understanding, and skills required for the role of a music technician.

Course Overview
The Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma course consists of six units including: Music production techniques Sequencing Systems and Techniques Live sound techniques Sound Creation and Manipulation Backline Technical Management. The core unit in studio production forms part of a major project, where students produce industry-standard tracks.

Course Highlights
The department organizes trips and visits to events such as Performance Showcases and SoundExpo Show. Students also have opportunities to manage technical aspects of music performance at various venues, both within and outside the college.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
Upon completion of this course, students can pursue degree courses in Music or other higher education courses. With further training, they can pursue careers as Sound Engineers, Audio Technicians, Musicians, Music Therapists, or Music Teachers, as the course provides skills applicable across various industries.

Assessment
The course is assessed through 66% coursework and 33% DAW exam, conducted by the exam board Pearson BTEC.

Entry Requirements
Students interested in BTEC Level 3 courses should have at least four GCSE passes at Grade 4 or above, including English and Mathematics, and a satisfactory school reference. Additionally, students should have previous experience in music production, a passion for music creation, and basic keyboard skills. An audition and interview with the Music staff are part of the application process, where students can present their performances and discuss their potential.
