Useful Information
A Level Fashion and Textiles offers students an exciting opportunity to explore and develop skills in a wide range of textile processes, which can be applied to fashion, textile art, and interior design. The course covers a variety of techniques, including: Drawing and mark-making- Machine embroidery Dyeing and screen-printing Weaving, crochet, and macramé Fabric manipulation and heat-printing In addition to mastering these textile processes, students will also gain practical skills in constructing fashion garments. This hands-on course encourages creativity and innovation in textile design.

Course Overview
During the first year, students will be introduced to a broad spectrum of textile techniques, including stitching, printing, and construction. These foundational skills be developed into fashion, textile art, and interior design projects. In the second year, students can specialize in areas such as fabric manipulation, surface design, or constructed textiles as part of their personal investigation. Throughout the course, students’ projects will be supported by research into the work of professional designers and artists, learning from their techniques and processes. The primary goal is to help students develop an appreciation of the visual world and respond to it creatively through hands-on making. Students are required to £10 towards the cost of materials at the beginning of each academic year.

This course is an excellent starting point for students aspiring to enter this exciting industry.

Assessment
Students will be assessed on their practical work and ability to apply the textile techniques they have learned. The course is designed to prepare students for a vibrant career in the fashion and textile industry by giving them hands-on experience and a solid foundation in design.

Entry Requirements
To enroll in A Level Fashion and Textiles, students must have (or expect to achieve) at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including: English at grade 4 Mathematics at grade 4 Additionally, students must meet the following minimum GCSE requirements: Grade 4 in Art or Design Technology GCSE Students without a GCSE in Art, Design, or Textiles may still be considered based on a portfolio review.
