Course Overview
Graphic Design is the communication of information and ideas by visual means. The critical elements for a graphic designer are the successful communication of a message through the organisation of words and images. This A Level is a largely practical course concerned with visual communication skills and will enable you to develop creative and innovative ways of
expressing personal design concepts.

Course Highlights
The College provides a variety of educational experiences to help students contextualize their learning. These include trips to art galleries, outdoor drawing sessions, and talks by guest speakers, including local designers and artists. Additionally, students work with the Graphics team at IKEA each year, offering valuable industry insight.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
Many students choose to take a one-year Art Foundation Course at an Art College or enroll directly into a degree program in their preferred design field, such as Graphic Design, Advertising, Architecture. This course also prepares students for careers across print and digital media, from illustrating hand-made books to website design.

Assessment
A wide range of academic and vocational courses are available, and the art department is dedicated to helping students choose the most suitable program. The Visual Arts areas are well-equipped for various media, including printmaking, textiles, photography, and graphic design. Students also have access to dedicated resource areas with Apple Mac computers to support their creative work.
Component 1: Personal Investigation – 60% (includes an essay)
Component 2: Externally Set Assignment – 40% (includes a 15-hour practical exam)

Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs grade 9-4 and a satisfactory school reference.Including English Language at grade 4, maths at grade 4
and Art at grade 4 or a relevant subject as a minimum. A suitable portfolio will be required. Students who do not have
a GCSE (or equivalent) in Art and Design or Textiles will be considered on the basis of a portfolio review.
