Course Overview
In the first year, students will explore the concepts and institutions underpinning the British System of Government and core and non-core ideologies:
Unit 1: UK Politics
Topics include political participation (democracy, political parties, electoral systems, voting behavior, and the media) and core political ideas (liberalism, conservatism, and socialism).
Unit 2: UK Government
This unit covers UK Government (UK constitution, Parliament, Prime Minister and Executive, relationships between institutions) and optional non-core political ideas (multiculturalism).
In the second year, students will study comparative politics, focusing on the politics of the USA, including aspects such as the US Constitution, Federalism, US Congress, US Presidency, US Supreme Court, Democracy, and Civil Rights. The lessons involve lively debates, exposure to new ideas, and close analysis of current affairs.
No previous experience in Politics is required, but an interest in current affairs and a willingness to explore new ideas is essential. Students should be prepared to work hard and plan their own learning. Most students start studying Politics without prior experience, but a genuine interest in contemporary politics is necessary. Students should enjoy reading and staying updated with Politics, analyzing different points of view in writing, engaging in discussions, and delving into in-depth study of both British and American political systems. The course aims to develop analytical, investigative, and creative skills that will be valuable in various career paths. The exam board for this A Level is Pearson Edexcel.

Course Highlights
The College offers educational experiences including trips, visiting speakers, and residentials. For instance, in February 2019, History students will visit Beijing, China, and in October 2019, students will have the opportunity to visit New York and Washington DC in the USA.

Entry Requirements
Students interested in including A Levels in their program need at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English at grade 5 and mathematics at grade 4.
A satisfactory school reference is required, and students should meet the minimum GCSE requirement of grade 5 in English Literature or History if taken.
