Course Overview
Our Childcare Level 1 course is the perfect introduction to the world of childcare and early education. Designed for students with little or no experience, this course helps you develop essential skills in communication, child development and health and safety. With a mix of classroom learning and hands-on activities, you’ll build the confidence and knowledge needed to take your first steps toward a career in childcare.

Course Highlights
The Childcare Level 1 course covers a range of introductory units designed to give you a solid foundation in early years care. Key units include Understanding the Importance of Play, Health and Safety in a Childcare Setting, Communication with Children, Growth and Development of Young Children and Supporting Children’s Learning.These units help you build essential knowledge and practical skills for working with young children in a safe, engaging and supportive way. You will also have opportunities to take part in enrichment activities and educational trips to local nurseries, early years centres and child development settings to gain real-world insight into the childcare profession.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
On completion you can progress into higher education to study topics including Childhood Education or Social Work. This course opens up a wide range of exciting career opportunities including Childcare Assistant, Nursery Helper or Playgroup Assistant under supervision. Alternatively, you may wish to explore an apprenticeship.

Assessment
The Childcare Level 1 course is assessed through a combination of coursework, practical tasks and tutor observations. Students complete a portfolio of evidence, which may include written assignments, worksheets, group discussions, role plays and reflections on practical activities. There are no formal exams, making the course accessible and supportive for learners at the beginning of their childcare journey.

Entry Requirements
GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) in English and maths. Equivalence of these qualifications will be considered. Evidence of a commitment to learn and the ability to study at this level shown at interview. In addition, you will need to complete a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check once enrolled, which the College will pay for if you are aged between 16–18 when you start.
