Course Overview
Our Childcare Level 2 course is the perfect starting point to kick off your career in early childhood education.The Childcare Level 2 course is designed for students who are passionate about working with young children and want to build the skills and knowledge needed to support their development. This course provides a strong foundation in early years education, focusing on the physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs of children from birth to five years old.

Course Highlights
The Childcare Level 2 course covers a variety of essential units to provide you with a strong foundation in early years education. Key units include Child Development, Safeguarding Children, Health and Safety in Childcare, Supporting Children’s Play and Learning and Promoting Positive Behavior. You will also explore topics such as Communication with Children and Families and Understanding Legislation in Early Years. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in work placements and field trips to local nurseries, schools and childcare centers, offering real-world experience and enhancing your understanding of the industry.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
On completion you can progress into higher education to study topics including Childhood Education or Social Work. Further studies also include studying childcare level 3. This course opens up a wide range of exciting career opportunities including Early Years Assistant,Nursery Nurse and Childcare Practitioner. Alternatively, you may wish to explore an apprenticeship.

Assessment
Assessment methods for this course include:
Practical Competencies: 50% of the assessment based on direct observation in childcare settings.
Written Assignments: 50% assessed through tutor-marked essays, reports, portfolios, presentations, seminar discussions.
Work Experience: A compulsory component of the qualification that is crucial for practical learning.

Entry Requirements
3 GCSEs grade 9-3 (A*-D) or a related Level 1 vocational qualification including, English and maths. Equivalence of these qualifications will be considered. In addition, you will need to complete a DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check once enrolled, which the College will pay for if you are aged between 16–18 when you start.
