Course Overview
This course is designed for those who have an interest in
engineering, with a desire to have a career within this sector. We will provide
you with the practical experience and the technical knowledge to work in the
engineering industry. You will learn the basic fundamentals of mechanical
engineering through a combination of theory lessons and practical work in our
contemporary engineering workshops.
Throughout this course you will study a range of subjects,
including wiring electrical circuits, making engineering components,
interpreting and using engineering information, using the bench drill, health
and safety practices, and various employability units.
Good English and Maths skills are essential for success in
studying and for future employment prospects and so Croydon College ensures that
these skills are developed in all learning
opportunities.

Course Highlights
Specialist Facilities:
This programme is delivered by our fully qualified and
professional staff. You will benefit from working with CAD/CAM machinery, a PLC
suite, Instrumentation & Control software and hardware, Rapid Prototyper (3D
Printer), as well as industry standard workshops with modern
technology.
Trips and Activities:
You will also have the opportunity to visit and undertake
voluntary work on the steam train that is coupled to the Orient
Express.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
Completion of this course can lead to progression to our
Level 2 engineering programme. Alternatively, you can enter employment as an
apprentice within the engineering industry.
Future careers can include aerospace engineering, electronic
engineering, mechanical engineering, and aircraft
maintenance.

Assessment
You will be assessed over 11 units. Each unit consists of
three or four written assignments.

Entry Requirements
GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) in English and maths.Equivalence of these qualifications will be considered. Evidence of a commitment to learn and the ability to study at this level shown at interview.
