Course Overview
This course is designed for those who have an interest in carpentry, with a desire to work in the construction sector. This qualification will assist in your progression to become a fully qualified carpenter and you will develop and practice the skills required for employment and career progression. Throughout this course you will study a range of subjects, including health and safety, various aspects of carpentry practical and theory, environment and sustainability, and the construction industry. Good English and Maths skills are essential for success in studying and for future employment prospects and so, Croydon College ensures that these skills are developed in all learning opportunities. If you do not have English and maths levels you can work towards an appropriate level and type of qualification including GCSE or Functional Skills alongside your main vocational or academic qualification.

Course Highlights
This programme is delivered by our fully trained and professional staff who have years of industry and site experience and you will benefit from learning in our modern, well-equipped workshops. You will work within the real working environment within our carpentry workshop. You will be required to purchase PPE steal cap boots. You will have the opportunity to undertake course focused enrichment activities outside of Croydon College. A key distinguishing feature of the college is our links with employers and the ways in which we incorporate this into your learning. Employers attend our popular employability events and you can discuss apprenticeships and progression opportunities in our employability hub or in the apprenticeship office. Work experience opportunity – a minimum of 40 hours over the academic year.

Assessment
Classroom-based learning supervised by a teacher. Practical learning supervised by a teacher. All forms of assessment which take place under the immediate guidance or supervision of an appropriate provider of training.

Entry Requirements
GCSE grade 9-2 (A*-E) in English and maths.Equivalence of these qualifications will be considered. Evidence of a commitment to learn and the ability to study at this level shown at interview.
