Course Overview
This course is designed for those who have an interest in carpentry, with a desire to work in the construction sector. This qualification will assist in your progression to become a fully qualified carpenter and you will develop and practice the skills required for employment and career progression. Throughout this course you will study a range of subjects, including health and safety, various aspects of carpentry practical and theory, environment and sustainability and the construction industry.

Course Highlights
This programme is taught by our highly trained staff, who bring years of industry and site experience and you will benefit from learning in our modern, well-equipped carpentry workshop. You’ll gain practical experience in a real working environment and will be required to purchase PPE, including steel-capped boots. The course also offers enrichment activities outside of Croydon College, and thanks to our strong links with employers, you’ll have opportunities to engage in employability events, discuss apprenticeships and explore progression options in our employability hub or apprenticeship office. Additionally, you will complete a minimum of 40 hours of work experience throughout the academic year.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
Many opt to continue their education with Level 2 and 3 carpentry courses, enabling them to take on more complex projects or even start their own carpentry business.Entry-level positions such as carpentry assistant, apprentice carpenter or woodworking technician are common pathways.

Assessment
The assessment process for the Carpentry & Joinery Level 1 Diploma involves a combination of practical assessments and written assignments. Students are evaluated on their ability to perform tasks in a workshop setting, where they will demonstrate their skills in using tools, measuring, cutting and assembling wood to create basic structures.Additionally, written assignments test students' knowledge of carpentry techniques, materials and safety practices

Entry Requirements
GCSE grade 9-3 (A*-D) in English and maths.Equivalence of these qualifications will be considered. Evidence of a commitment to learn and the ability to study at this level shown at interview.
