Course Overview

For learners who want to work as plumbers in the building services engineering sector. This qualification does not make candidates fully qualified plumbers but will allow you to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the plumbing sector.

It covers subject such as:-

  • Hot and Cold water systems
  • Common plumbing processes
  • Central heating systems
  • Drainage systems
  • Electrical principles and processes


Our fully trained staff have years of site experience of carrying out plumbing duties and will guide you through your qualification in our well-equipped workshops



Course Highlights

Students will have the opportunity to undertake enrichment activities outside of Croydon College. There are regular trips to exhibitions such as Eco-Build at the Excel Centre and on-site visits to construction sites.

We are actively involved with local employers and students can discuss Apprenticeships and progression opportunities in our Employability Hub or in the Apprenticeship Office.

 



Career Opportunities & Further Study

It allows candidates to progress into employment, or to the following City & Guilds qualifications:

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Plumbing and Heating
  • Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing Studies
  • Some of our learners have progressed from this course on to a full Level 2 Apprenticeship


Assessment

This course is assessed in two ways:

  • There are practical task that have to be assessed in a ’real work’ workshop environment by our fully trained assessors. Learners will have to complete a portfolio of evidence of all workshop tasks.
  • Then there are ten online multiple choice unit tests which test your knowledge and understanding of the subject.


Entry Requirements

English and Maths Grade 4 and above or Level 2 Functional Skills;

AND;

Including a GCSE at grade 4/C (or equivalent) as a minimum in English OR English and Mathematics assessed at Level 2 or above by College assessment.

A satisfactory reference may also be requested.
