Course Overview

This qualification is for anyone who wishes to work as an electrician in the building services industry. It has been designed to deliver a high level of occupational skills and provide a platform from which to progress through further learning or into industry employment. This vocational route at level 3 is a vital step towards becoming a competent electrician.

Provide own hard copy of current BS 7671 I.E.T. Wiring Regulations and On-site Guide to BS 7671.

Applicants should be currently working/working towards entering the electrical industry (i.e. minimum experience as an electrical labourer)

Applicants should be able to externally revise a minimum of 8 hours a week.

To provide own pair of steel toe cap boots/footwear (workshop)

To provide own scientific calculator

Mini A4 notepad and pens/highlighters/pencils etc… (theory notes and technical drawings).



Course Highlights

The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the electrotechnical sector. You will cover compulsory aspects such as:

Working safely and effectively

Design, construct, test and commission electrical systems

Methods of supervision

Electrical science and principles

Regulations and law

Diagnose and repair electrical faults

Centres and providers work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where possible work placements will also be provided by the employers. This practically based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment in the electrotechnical industry or specialist further study.



Career Opportunities & Further Study

This technical qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and practical skills needed for working competently in the electrotechnical industry with the aim of eventually becoming a qualified registered electrician (upon successfully completion of additional industry qualifications/assessments – this will be discussed more in detail with your vocational tutors).

This qualification is supported by the JIB (Joint Industry Board). The JIB have been at the forefront of maintaining qualifications in electrotechnical industry for over 40 years. This industry qualification is acknowledged by the Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS).



Assessment

Written and practical assessments across content from seven units holistically:

To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following assessments:

One externally set, externally moderated assignment.

One externally set, externally marked exam, sat under examination conditions.

Employer involvement in the delivery and/or assessment of this qualification is essential for all candidates and will be externally quality assured.



Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs grade 9-4 (A*-C) and a related Level 2 electrical qualification (at merit or higher), including English and maths. Equivalence of these qualifications will be considered
