Course Overview
On this course, you will learn how to carry out maintenance and repairs on cars, vans, and other light vehicles in our modern, fully equipped workshops. You will also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.

Specialist Facilities:

This programme is delivered by our fully qualified and professional staff. You will gain experience in exactly what it would be like to work as a technician in a modern workshop. You will develop your understanding of vehicle maintenance, in both the classroom and the workshop, while working towards completing a portfolio.

You will benefit from working in a modern, fully equipped vehicle workshop with an extensive range of industry standard Snap-on and Bosch diagnostic equipment. You will be working on a fleet of modern vehicles you will and diagnose faults on bespoke engine running rigs.

You will also gain the confidence to conduct a mock MOT inspection as well as carry out lubrication and full servicing with diagnostic fault finding techniques.

Trips and Activities:

You will have the opportunity to participate in trips and visits to:

  • Brands Hatch
  • BMW training at Reading
  • The Mini production line based at Oxford.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
Completion of this course can lead to progression to our Level 3 vehicle technology programme. Alternatively, you could enter employment within the motor industry as an apprentice.

Assessment

You will be assessed on a portfolio of work developed over the year, containing evidence of completed practical work and written assignments.

There are also ten online multiple choice tests.



Entry Requirements
3 GCSEs grade 9-3 (A*-D) or a related Level 1 Motor Vehicle qualification including, English and maths. Equivalence of these qualifications will be considered. Mature applicants may be considered on relevant experience without having the required entry requirements. However, an interview will always be required. A satisfactory reference may also be requested.
