Course Overview
The course runs from September to December for level 2 and from January-July for level 3. Students have the opportunity to do both courses in one academic year, or do either course as a standalone.
The course runs for two full days a week.
This qualification aims to provide learners with in-depth knowledge of the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work and the approaches that underpin the use of these skills.
To be awarded the Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills, learners are required to successfully complete 5 mandatory units:
Unit 01 Developing counselling skills
Unit 02 Theoretical approaches in the use of counselling skills
Unit 03 Working ethically with counselling skills
Unit 04 Counselling skills and diversity
Unit 05 Counselling skills and personal development.
Students will also study Level 2 OCN qualification or Level 2 Laser qualification.
Students must be completely committed to hard work and are required to maintain full attendance (100%) throughout the course.

Course Highlights
We offer fantastic extra-curricular activities such as Macmillan fund raising and Walking for health at Macmillan Resource Centre at Croydon University Hospital and many more volunteering opportunities to support your personal development.
Get involved in HIV awareness days and encourage people to get tested for HIV.
Students will have the opportunity to review their progression journey with The National Careers Service.

Career Opportunities & Further Study
Learners who achieve this qualification can progress to:
- Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
- Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Advice and Guidance
- Foundation Degrees in Counselling
Alternatively, they can pursue employment in fields such as:
- Support worker (supported living)
- Healthcare support service worker
- Clinical healthcare support worker
- Mental health support worker
- Information, advice and guidance worker
- Health education/health promotion worker

Assessment
To be awarded the Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills, learners must successfully complete 5 mandatory units. The Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills is assessed internally.

Entry Requirements
Proficiency in written and spoken English must be demonstrated through the following qualifications:
- GCSEs with grades A* to C / 9 to 4
- Functional Skills Level 2
- Recognized non-UK GCSE equivalencies in English and Maths are preferred
However, each application will be assessed individually. The selection process includes:
- Interview
- Initial screening
- Literacy and Numeracy tests
You will be invited to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This event will provide valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
It's important to note that universities are increasingly requiring GCSEs or Functional Skills (Level 2) as part of their entry criteria. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to ensure that their current and future qualifications meet the entry requirements of any university they intend to apply to.
