This course is Hand - Building with Clay for Beginners.
This course starts the week commening Monday 15th January 2024.
This course is suitable for beginners and those who have previously completed the Beginner’s Ceramics course in Press Moulding and Coiling at Croydon College.
Learn how to construct a variety of vessels using slab building techniques. You will learn how to cut, fold and shape sheets of clay to make bowls and jars and how to use slabs of clay to construct box forms. You will learn how to prepare clay for differing purposes, make component parts and how to assemble them. You will learn how clay behaves at differing stages of construction and what forms of decoration you can introduce during those stages. A leather hard clay surface is perfect for carving into but is also the ideal time to apply pattern and colour in the form of slips. You will learn how to apply glazes using brushwork and dipping techniques.
Please wear suitable clothing and shoes or trainers. No sandals please. We have aprons but please bring your own if you prefer.
