This course is aimed at creative individuals wanting to
learn how to use a darkroom or experiment with analogue photography. Whether you
are a complete beginner, or someone already experienced in photography; watch
yourself grow in confidence as your skills improve.
Together we will exploring traditional and experimental
darkroom techniques. You will gain an understanding of composition, how to take
a ‘good’ image, printing and developing B&W film as well as some alternative
printing methods. Ultimately understand more about using a camera, through
darkroom experimentation.
Throughout this course you will engage with the following
workshops, each week leaving with some new imagery you printed yourself.
• Learn to use a black and white
darkroom
• Create Photograms with objects and stencils (Camera-less
photography)
• Make and use a working camera out of recycled
materials (Pinhole Camera)
• Shoot a B&W 35mm or 120 roll of
film
• Learn to develop the roll of film by hand
• Create a
B&W Prints of your images or from an old negative
The course will include paper and chemicals. Participants
will need to purchase at least one roll of 35mm or 120 film to shoot during the
course. This can be purchased from the college when the course starts. If you
have a working analogue camera please bring along. If not, SLRs and Medium
Format cameras can be borrowed from the college during appropriate
lessons.
