Why do people commit crimes looking at biological and social influences? Use and application of theories of criminality. How does campaigns affect policy making by governments?

Course Highlights

Types of crime from organised to corporate. Looking at for example:

Common assault
Domestic abuse
Vandalism
Rape
Perceived victimless crimes (e.g. white-collar crime, vagrancy, prostitution, assisted suicide)

The representation of crime in the media from News media to films and electronic gaming. Crime associated with social media.

Social construction
How laws change from culture to culture
How laws change over time
How laws are applied differently according to circumstances in which actions occur
Why laws are different according to place, time and culture.

Theories:

Marxism
Labelling
Functionalism
Left and right realism.
