The course provides students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to prepare for further study or training in a psychology based career.
Three mandatory units include applications of psychological approaches, health psychology and research methods. There is one optional unit in year 2 that links to more applied occupational areas such as forensic psychology, child’s development, psychopathology and sports psychology.
Course Specific Trips & Visits
The College runs a number of educational experiences each year to enable students to contextualise their learning. There will be the opportunity to visit the Bethlem Royal Hospital and Bethlem Museum of the Mind at the end of year one. There is no requirement for a work experience placement although students are encouraged to seek meaningful experience and/or volunteer experience to aid their career progression.
The course is assessed via exam (50%) and coursework (50%).
The exam board for this course is Pearson EDEXCEL.
Students wishing to do BTEC Level 3 courses, need to have (or expect to achieve) at least four GCSE passes at Grade 4 or above including English and Mathematics (and a satisfactory school reference) in order to be accepted on a BTEC Level 3 Programme.
Students must also gain the additional GCSE grade:
Alternatively, we can accept GCSE Psychology at grade 3 and double science at grade 4.
