Course Overview

The Construction Management for England: Construction Site Supervisor programme has been designed to equip students with a wide range of skills, knowledge and understanding to work in their chosen specialism, or progress to further graduate opportunities. At Croydon University Centre, we have a long history of collaborating with London-based universities to give our students ample opportunities to progress onto undergraduate degree programmes upon successful completion of their course.

The purpose of Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Construction Management for England is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the construction sector and adapt to a constantly changing world.

 

The qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them.

The objectives of the Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Construction Management for England are to:

Programme Rationale

Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals are designed to provide a specialist vocational programme, linked to professional body requirements and National Occupational Standards where appropriate, with a strong sector-related emphasis on practical skills development. The qualifications provide a thorough grounding in the key concepts and practical skills required in their sector and their national recognition by employers allows progression directly into employment.

Teaching & learning
Teaching and Learning Methods (applicable to all Programme Learning Outcomes):
Knowledge and skills are acquired through lectures, tutorials, guest speakers, directed and independent study, case studies and experiential learning. Learning is developed through problem solving, coursework assignments, in-class assessments (role plays, presentations and poster construction), workshops and computer assisted learning (Moodle).



Career Opportunities & Further Study

A key progression path for Pearson BTEC HNC/HND graduates is to a Top-up degree programme or the third year of a degree programme.

In order to qualify for the Higher Certificate or Higher Diploma you must pass all the units/modules as defined by the above programme pathway requirements.

The L4 HNC in Higher National Certificate in Construction Management for England (Construction Site Supervisor) is a requirement for any Construction professional wishing to upgrade their knowledge in Construction Management. The programme is equipped with modules relating to Construction Management and Site Supervision. The potential roles after the completing the program would be Assistant Construction Site Supervisor, Assistant Project Manager.



Assessment
Assessment is based on a combination of coursework, assignments and assessment will vary from unit to unit. You will also be required to undertake some group and project work. You will learn hands-on skills such as drawing, setting out and measuring and learn to use software such as AutoCAD and MS Project. 

Entry Requirements

One or more of the following:

  • Level 3 qualification in Construction and the Built Environment (or a related subject).
  • GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject; this profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades A* to C and/or 9 to 4 (or equivalent) in subjects such as maths and English
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications
  • An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution
  • Related work experience
  • An international equivalent of the above
